CASE STUDY

Volume Consolidation

Challenge – A customer of CTL closed their California DC and shifted operations to the East Coast. Within months of shipping westbound from the East Coast, the customer realized extreme damages were occurring to their cargo. Full pallets of product were being compromised, and cartons were crushed using their traditional LTL carriers. These same LTL carriers handled their westbound traffic as well as their HI destined shipments. The increased handling by the traditional LTL carriers caused the cargo to arrive in HI with the inner cartons damaged by repetitive handling. Replacements for the damaged cartons would need to be sent, doubling transit times and costing the customer extra dollars and waste valuable time.

CTL Solution – Data analysis of how the shipments were moving across the USA began and the operations team formulated a solution to consolidate the LTL shipments ideally with other LTL shipments for the same customer daily to make a weekly run across the USA and make the necessary stops along the way. When this customer did not have enough freight to make a full TL, other customer LTL shipments were matched with this customer to make full TL shipments going to the same destination(s).
